the Boston banker Charles Fairchild as a gift for his wife Elizabeth Nelson

Louis Stevenson is pacing and his wife Fanny is seated in background to the
right of the door. By and large, the critical review was mixed about this
painting. They thought the composition odd and the depiction of Stevenson
strange and unflattering, just as some people had said about Daughters of

painted the subject diagonally lying on her back. The diagonal placement
creates a tension in an otherwise serene subject. The painting is further
enhanced with the subject’s head lying on a pillow that appears to have
been painted with prussian

Notes:
I found
this image of Rose-Marie in an ebay sale for an old book (I didn't copy down
the title). This was one of the images. It seems to me that this was done at
the same time as Rose-Marie Ormond (later Madame Robert André-Michel)
which would put it, if my thinking is correct, at the time of her wedding.
