of the Crucifixion which hangs at the Tate, London, was an early and smaller
version of what Sargent was working on for the Boston Public Library which he
finished and installed in 1903. This smaller version is one of a few he did

This was
painted with astonishingly vigorous brush. Signed lower left in brown by the
artist.
J.S.S.,
unfettered by the demand for likeness took many trips to Venice, where he
painted to please himself. Most all of his Venetian works were in watercolour, this is
a very rare painting.

Delafosse (1874 - 1951) was talented and gifted pianist and composer. He came
from very humble beginnings but rose to the highest levels of Society. He

Ribblesdale whom Sargent painted in 1902. The drawing was reproduced as the
