The present
work depicts Flora Cecilia Sassoon, the daughter of Kate Ezekiel and Reuben
Sassoon who married Ernest Raphael, a London financier, in May 1893. It is one of
three portraits of the Raphael family Sargent painted between 1904 and 1906.

would serve as a pendent to the family portrait of the 4th Duke done by Sir

friend of his sister Emily and John and she accompanied them on some of their
trips. John paints her a number of times such as Miss Wedgwood & Miss

The
painting that I would like to see added to your wonderful website is "Miss
Eden" painted in 1905. This painting was included in the last 1999 Sargent
Show at The National gallery of Art. It is unusual because it is a watercolor
done in the formal style of his oils, perhaps the only one he ever did in this
style.
