Venetian Interior 1880-82 |
This is a
good example of John's use of light in a picture. Notice the way it filters in
from an unseen doorway at frame right, the light at the far end, as well as how
light and shadows manifest themselves on the different figures.

days in Venice in January, 2005,

Campo Sant' Agnese is still there and still looks remarkably like the
painting. You can stand, or sit, right where Mr. Sargent did.
