Farquharson. According to Charles Merrill Mount, the painting is also
inscribed: "To my friend Mr. Farquharson", 24 x 20 ½ , and as
of the 1950's the painting was held with the family.

Townsend was the daughter of Richard H. Townsend. How was
Richard related to John Joseph Townsend and to whom was Miss Edna
Townsend the daughter?

Palmer later Mrs. L. H. Myers (1873-1955). She was the daughter of a wealthy
expatriate American from Colorado.
Mrs. Palmer had rented the Ightham Mote house near Kent of which Sargent
became a frequent guest. It was here that he also painted A Game of Bowls.

The
painting that I would like to see added to your wonderful website is "Miss
Eden" painted in 1905. This painting was included in the last 1999 Sargent
Show at The National gallery of Art. It is unusual because it is a watercolor
done in the formal style of his oils, perhaps the only one he ever did in this
style.
