Earl Beatty
was the most distinguished naval commander to serve in the Great War; he was
Vice-Admiral in command of the British advance forces at the Battle of Jutland

painted Elsie Swinton (Mrs. George Swinton) in 1897. Elsie had married Captan
George Swinton two years previous ('95). The Swintons were friends with a
number of painters including Sargent. Others of note were William Orpen -- who did a family portrait for the

Daintrey
was an English [1] art student in Paris who enrolled in Alexandre Cabanel's
atelier in 1872 at the age of 29. He was born in 1843 and if the dating of this
