notes
This miniature of Elizabeth Putnam (1770-1820) is attributed to William Dunlap on stylistic grounds, and the artist apparently painted it several years after her death. She had married Ebenezer Putnam in 1786, and was the daughter of the Honorable John Chandler and Dorothy Paine.
