Description: The painting depicts Puritan preacher Thomas Hooker leading members of his congregation from Massachusetts to Hartford to found a new settlement in 1633. The band of settlers, some on horseback and some on foot, along with their cattle, cross a stream near a small waterfall. In the background is the sunlit Connecticut River valley.
