This painting is one of two studies that the Nelson-Atkins Museum both of which directly relate to his much larger painting Spanish Dance.

This painting (Study for Spanish Dance) is done with  liberal brush strokes, and the sky seems to churn in a brewing storm above echoing the passion of the dance. No effort is made to represent the faces, the object is the dance itself.
