William Roscoe Thayer (1859–1923) was an American author and editor. He graduated from Harvard in 1881 and became editor of the Harvard Graduates' Magazine in 1892. In 1914, he was elected to The American Academy of Arts and Letters and he received honorary degrees from Harvard, Yale, Brown and other universities. His verse includes:

Some time ago I purchased a book entitled, "Later Years of the Saturday Club: 1870-1920," by M. A. DeWolfe Howe, published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1927. This drawing was in it.
