About the collection

The permanent collection of The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia consists of approximately 13,000 objects. In support of our academic mission, the Museum provides opportunities for study and scholarship through direct engagement with the collection and virtual access through digital resources. Approximately 10% of the collection is available at any time for research and exploration through our Online Collection, while our open storage and study areas—theObject Study Gallery, the Print Study Gallery, and Painting Storage—offer further insight into the collection for faculty, students, and the general public.

Highlights

The Fralin's collection highlights include European and American painting, photography, works on paper, African art, and American Indian art. Many of our finest objects are available online for browsing and study.

Acquisitions

The Museum highlights important acquisitions on our website. These works add depth and variety to our collection, thereby enhancing opportunities for research.

Access

The Museum is dedicated to providing access to our collection for students, faculty, and all of our communities through our teaching spaces, online resources, and interactive iPad application.
