About Us

For over thirty years Roger King Fine Art has been buying, selling and appraising fine American art. It is Newport's oldest fine arts gallery, located on Bowen's Wharf in the heart of the city's historic waterfront in. Centrally located, the wharf is at the base of Newport's Historic Hill, known for its charming and historic streets lined with clapboard houses dating from the early 18th century. To the east are the famous late 19th century mansions of the Gilded Age.

From its second and third floor galleries in a historic waterfront building, the gallery overlooks Newport harbor with its historic America's Cup yachts, sailing ships, and working vessels. Within the gallery, paintings on two floors are exhibited in Old World "salon style" in an intimate environment that is frequently compared to "a small museum." Visitors are encouraged to browse and enjoy some of the finest art available in New England.

The gallery carries a wide array of art reflecting the history and variety of American painting of two centuries. Our roster of artists include those of national importance as well as artists from regional traditions including the Hudson River School, Providence and Fall River, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and the Mid-West. The gallery also has particular specialties in marine art and early African-American painting. Artists from any of these groups can be found on our website, which is divided into sections on figurative works and portraits; still lifes; marine art and coastal scenes; and landscapes. Each of these categories will include a wide selection of works spanning two centuries.

Roger King Fine Art has been assisting museums and collectors at all levels for over thirty years. We purchase fine American art, from single paintings to entire estates and ship worldwide. Appraisal, conservation and framing services are also available. If you find a work here that interests you or if you have art to sell, please feel free to contact us for more information.
