Since its founding in 1987, the German Historical Museum with numerous exhibits an international reputation as one of the most important and most visited museums in Germany has acquired. More than 500,000 visitors were on average are welcomed each year to look at various aspects of German history. 
With the opening of the newly constructed temporary exhibition building by IM Pei in May 2003 and received in 2006 opening of the permanent exhibition of the DHM to 8,000 square feet in the newly renovated entrance for Linden, the Museum receives two prestigious houses.

It is a major concern of the German Historical Museum, visitors and prospective customers in the future more than ever in its work, looks to provide behind the scenes, expertly guided field trips to make to other museums and to create opportunities for in-depth information and ideas.

In addition, the DEM would like in times of declining budgets in the public sector for museums seeking support for the continuation and expansion of its successful collection and exhibition activities.

·         More than 850,000 some very valuable items, including many objects from the historic armory and the former museum of German history must, in the depots of the DHM permanent conservation management and restoration.

·         For-the-art temporary exhibition building it is important to prepare for the future and a regularly changing exhibition program attractive for its implementation, financial support is required.

·         It is one of the priority tasks of the DHM, the German patrimony by buying items with special historical significance, and end up on the art market to hold in Germany and to document for posterity. The funds to purchase existing range is often not present.
