On the back, in the artist's hand, is written "Hart's Ledge, and Echo Lake, near North Conway, NH, T. J. Fenimore 1867."   Cathedral Ledge was named in 1859 by members of a family named Parsons, but this rock formation had been previously known as Harts Ledge.
