Jules Émile Saintin (1829-1894) was born in Lemée (Aisne), France on October 14, 1829 and died in Paris on July 14, 1894. He is considered a portrait, historical and genre painter from the academic French school. He received his formal art education in 1845 at the Ecole des Beaux-arts under Michel-Martin Drolling (1786-1851), Achille-Jean- Babtiste (1793-?) and Francais Edouard Picot (1786-1868).

Saintin debuted at the Paris Salon of 1848 where he was awarded medals in1866, 1870 and 1886. He was awarded Frances highest honor as a Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur.
