Pieter Vanderlyn (* 1687 , † 1778 in Shawangunk ) was an American painter of Dutch origin. He is the Patroon Painters counted.
Vanderlyn in 1718 emigrated from the Netherlands, probably via Curacao to New York one. It is unclear where he then resided, presumably in Kingston on the Hudson River , 130 km north of New York , or Albany .
He painted many portraits, he will be, for example, the portraits of the family Gansevoort Limner attributed. Ann Lee Morgan writes that Vanderlyn had her own style, from "flat patterns, rhythmic contours, and appealing color" was. [1] As an example of his style is the portrait of Pau de Wandelaer (circa 1730, Albany Institute of History and Art). It shows a boy with a bird on the hand, runs in the background of the Hudson, in short, an idyll .
His last painting dates from 1750th
He is the grandfather of the painter John Vanderlyn .
